Job description

NBC National News is a division of NBC News Group which includes Telemundo, NBC Local Stations and National News. NBC National News produces flagship television broadcasts including TODAY, NBC Nightly News, Meet the Press, and Dateline. NBC News also includes a robust Digital & Streaming portfolio which includes digital outlets like NBCNews.com and the streaming network, NBC News NOW. The VP, National News Finance will act as a financial and strategic leader for National News, and partner with the CFO of National News as well as editorial and technical operational leaders to achieve budget and drive efficiencies.  The role will report to the Chief Financial Officer for National News. Here you can: • Provide leadership in the development of strategic financial objectives aligned with the long-range plan for a diverse platform of NBC National News brands including NBC Nightly News with Tom Llamas, NBC News NOW, Dateline. Lead all core finance processes (budgets, pacing, estimate updates, long range plans). • Structure, coach, and develop a team of finance professionals, and also partner with News FP&A to ensure accuracy of reporting • Develop tools and processes to provide insights into critical strategic operational areas (e.g. Streaming investments, FAST monetization) • Assist CFO, National News and News FP&A with financial preparation and delivery of monthly op reviews and annual budget reviews. • Develop strong relationships with the editorial leadership team including show executive producers and help guide and influence their plans to ensure the News brands achieve budgets and long-range plans. • Partner with finance peers to implement operational and financial best practices and ensure balance sheet stewardship and controllership • Provide financial guidance to the President/EP of Dateline and Dateline leadership to support the continued expansion of Dateline in linear, audio, streaming, syndication, etc. • Regularly partner with Strategy, Production Management, Research, Marketing, etc. to support brand revenue growth via product launches, content windowing, and downstream rights monetization. Here you'll need: • 10+ years of experience in a finance or related role preferably in entertainment or digital media • BA/BS degree required, BA/BS in Finance/Accounting or related field preferred. • Excellent written communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage and influence across an organization at all levels with technical, creative, and executive team members • Proficiency with SAP • Media/Broadcast industry experience preferred • Proven leadership and management skills with the ability to recruit, develop, and retain a high performing financial organization and effectively deal with strong personalities • Strategic thinker who can be a credible thought leader in an experienced leadership team with an ability to find and vet opportunities in a changing media landscape • Must demonstrate integrity, excellent judgment and business acumen, and the ability to play a significant executive role in the business and provide thoughtful, strategic insights to senior leadership that translate into successful business strategies • Solid leader and persuasive communicator with a vision, proven ability to self-motivate, work independently as well as collaboratively, and motivate and inspire a team; excellent writing and verbal presentation skills • Able to establish trust and rapport with both operating and financial leaders inside the organization as well as in adjacent organizations • Proven leadership and management skills with the ability to recruit, develop, and retain a high performing financial organization and effectively deal with strong personalities • Prior P&L leadership a plus As part of our selection process, external candidates may be required to attend an in-person interview with an NBCUniversal employee at one of our locations prior to a hiring decision.
