Job description
As an Occupational Health Nurse, you will work with the on-island medical team to assess occupational health needs and support fitness-for-duty determinations within authorized nursing scope. You will help conduct initial and annual examinations, track medical clearances and restrictions, and provide routine or urgent nursing assistance when assigned. The role also supports infection prevention, emergency preparedness, and the continuity of care in a remote-site clinic.
The occupational health workload includes baseline and annual ECG support for applicable personnel, food-service health assessments, and medical surveillance for spill-response workers. You will also track the timely completion of screening records, report contagious-disease concerns through proper channels, and collaborate with medical and health-and-safety personnel when restrictions or follow-up are necessary.
Employment Type: Full-time
Assignment Details: This position requires relocation to Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory, for the duration of the assignment.
Key Responsibilities

• Complete assigned transition screening documentation within 30 days; support initial and annual health evaluations and required testing.
• Perform authorized nursing assessments, triage, routine and urgent care, preventive services, immunizations, and clinical support for emergency stabilization.
• Support baseline and annual ECGs for personnel aged 35 and older, food-service worker medical assessments, and spill-response personnel surveillance as assigned.
• Document confidential encounters and surveillance findings in the electronic health record; coordinate handoffs, referrals, medical movement, and relevant safety communications.
• Support emergency and on-call response, equipment checks, infection-control practices, patient safety reporting, and assigned mass-casualty exercises.
You will apply occupational nursing expertise across screening, prevention, and clinical support in a role that connects individual health with workplace readiness.
