Overnight Cleaner

Job description

The primary responsibility of the Overnight Cleaner is to maintain a consistently high standard of cleanliness, presentation, and sanitation throughout the hotel during the overnight hours. The Overnight Cleaner is responsible for cleaning and maintaining designated guest floors, public areas, elevators, restrooms, heart-of-house areas, restaurants, and other assigned spaces to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for guests and colleagues. The Overnight Cleaner maintains a high level of attention to detail and service, responding to operational needs and requests throughout the overnight shift. DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS Essential • Approach all interactions with guests and colleagues in a friendly, professional, and service-oriented manner. • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality in accordance with Fairmont standards and the operational needs of the hotel. • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including wearing the proper uniform and name tag while working. • Comply at all times with Fairmont standards, policies, procedures, and safety regulations to promote safe and efficient hotel operations. • Review daily assignments and scheduled duties at the beginning of each shift. • Gather, organize, and properly use all required cleaning supplies and equipment. • Complete all assigned cleaning duties in designated areas in accordance with established cleanliness and sanitation standards. • Clean, sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in public areas, guest floors, back-of-house areas, restrooms, and restaurants. • Maintain elevators in a clean, safe, and presentable condition. • Clean and maintain public restrooms, including replenishing restroom supplies as needed. • Maintain clean, orderly, and well-presented service areas at all times. • Remove trash and recycling from assigned areas and dispose of materials in accordance with hotel procedures. • Keep hallways, public areas, sidewalks, service areas, and closets clean, neat, swept, and vacuumed. • Clean and maintain designated outdoor areas, including removing trash and debris from planters. • Remove gum, wall marks, floor spots, and other visible stains using appropriate cleaning methods and approved chemicals. • Clean and polish glass, windows, mirrors, pictures, fixtures, and other designated surfaces. • Clean and maintain public telephone and other guest-facing areas as assigned. • Assist with maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of restaurant areas during overnight operations. • Assist with floor care duties, including carpet cleaning and other floor maintenance as assigned. • Maintain and properly store cleaning equipment and supplies at the end of each shift. • Follow proper procedures for the handling, use, storage, and disposal of cleaning chemicals and equipment. • Immediately report maintenance issues, safety hazards, damaged property, or other concerns to the Manager on Duty or Engineering. • Immediately report all lost and found items to the appropriate manager in accordance with hotel procedures. • Maintain awareness of guest activity and respond to guest requests or direct guests to the appropriate department when assistance is needed. • Perform duties in a manner that minimizes disruption to guests while maintaining required cleanliness standards. • Perform additional cleaning and operational tasks as directed by Housekeeping Management. • Follow all procedures and standards established by the Director of Housekeeper and Housekeeping Department. Marginal • Develop knowledge of hotel facilities, services, and amenities to assist with basic guest inquiries and provide appropriate directions. • Assist other Housekeeping colleagues with cleaning and operational needs as directed. • Assist with special cleaning projects and deep-cleaning assignments as needed. • Assist with floor care and other specialized cleaning projects. • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by management. The starting hourly rate is $26.95 Education • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. • Previous experience in a hotel, hospitality, housekeeping, janitorial, or relate field preferred. • Previous experience operating commercial cleaning equipment and using cleaning chemicals preferred. Tools & Equipment The Overnight Cleaner may be required to safely and effectively operate or use the following equipment and supplies: • Housekeeping Cart • Vacuum cleaners, hand vacuums, wet/dry vacuums • Brooms, mops, and buckets • Carpet extractor • Bonnet cleaner • Floor care equipment and products, including stripper, wax, and sealer • Window and glass cleaning products • Furniture polish • All-purpose and other approved cleaning products • Compactor sponge • Trash and dumpster equipment • Extension cords • Door stoppers • Hotel keys and access equipment • Elevators and related equipment Physical Requirements • Must be able to work overnight shifts and remain active for extended periods. • Long hours may occasionally be required based on operational needs. • Medium work requiring the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, and lift throughout the shift. • Must be able to safely perform cleaning tasks using appropriate equipment and cleaning products. Mental Requirements • Must be able to communicate information and ideas clearly and professionally. • Must be able to evaluate situations and select an appropriate course of action quickly and accurately. • Must be able to work effectively in stressful or high-pressure situations. • Must be attentive to detail and able to maintain consistent cleanliness standards. • Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and responding appropriately to concerns or requests from guests and colleagues. • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining assigned priorities and responsibilities. Other Abilities, Skills, and Knowledge • Knowledge of hotel facilities and operations preferred. • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. • Ability to work effectively as part of a team. • Bilingual skills helpful.
