Deputy Manager - Actuarials (Python)

Job description

Technical Leadership & Innovation • Solution Design & Development: Lead the end-to-end design, development, testing, and implementation of complex actuarial tools and models, primarily using Python and R, to automate processes, enhance data analysis, and improve reporting. • Client Transformation: Collaborate with actuarial SMEs to understand client objectives, calculations, data requirements, and output formats. Guide the team in coding, testing, and implementing solutions that adhere to client standards. • Internal Tooling: Drive the development of internal WNS tools and software from concept to deployment, ensuring robust design, efficient execution, and thorough testing. • Compliance & Standards: Work closely with IT and Infosec teams to ensure all developed tools and solutions comply with internal and client IT and information security standards. Team Management & Development • Team Leadership: Manage a team of 2-5 actuarial coding resources, providing guidance, mentorship, and technical oversight. • Performance Management: Set clear goals, track progress, and conduct performance reviews for team members, fostering a high-performance culture. • Grooming & Training: Play a crucial role in grooming and training junior resources within the team and across the broader actuarial and accounting functions (650+ actuarial resources, 145+ accounting resources). This includes training trainers to ensure uniform skill development and proof-of-concept delivery. Operational Excellence • SLA/KPI Management: Responsible for meeting, tracking, and reporting on Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the team's deliverables. • Stakeholder Coordination: Coordinate effectively with WNS support teams (e.g., IT, HR, Finance) to proactively resolve any issues that may impact the team's ability to deliver. • Documentation: Ensure comprehensive technical documentation is created and maintained for all developed tools, processes, and solutions. • Experience: 5-7 years of progressive experience in software development, programming, or data analysis, with a strong emphasis on coding and tool development. • Programming Proficiency: Expert-level proficiency in Python and/or R is essential. Experience with other languages like VBA or SQL is a plus. • Technical Acumen: Proven ability to design, develop, and implement complex software solutions. • Leadership: Demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring a team of developers or analysts. • Problem-Solving: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex business requirements into technical specifications and solutions. • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of effectively interacting with technical teams, actuarial SMEs, clients, and senior management. • Education: Bachelor's or Master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or a related quantitative field.
