Job description

The Host/Hostess is responsible for creating a warm and welcoming first impression for all guests dining at OAK Long Bar + Kitchen. This role facilitates the prompt and accurate seating of guests, manages reservations and table flow, coordinates with restaurant leadership and service colleagues to maximize the guest experience, and assists with processing guest payments when applicable. The Host/Hostess plays a vital role in ensuring seamless service, maintaining the restaurant's atmosphere, and delivering exceptional hospitality consistent with Fairmont standards. Essential Functions • Consistently provide friendly, engaging, and professional service to all guests and colleagues. • Welcome guests promptly and warmly upon arrival while creating a positive first impression. • Manage reservations, waitlists, and walk-in guests using OpenTable or the designated reservation system. • Accurately estimate wait times and communicate updates to guests. • Escort guests to appropriate tables while maintaining balanced seating among service stations. • Coordinate table assignments with restaurant leadership and service staff to optimize guest flow and service efficiency. • Monitor restaurant seating capacity and dining room activity throughout service. • Answer telephone calls promptly and professionally, assisting guests with reservations and inquiries. • Coordinate special requests, celebrations, VIP guests, accessibility accommodations, and large party reservations. • Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of the host stand, menus, reservation materials, and lobby area. • Ensure menus are clean, current, and in excellent condition. • Maintain knowledge of daily specials, menu offerings, beverage selections, restaurant promotions, and hotel events. • Assist with processing guest payments and accurately handle cash, credit card, and other payment transactions when required. • Communicate effectively with the kitchen, servers, bartenders, and management to ensure seamless guest experiences. • Observe guest satisfaction throughout service and communicate concerns promptly to restaurant leadership. • Maintain regular attendance in accordance with Fairmont scheduling requirements. • Maintain professional appearance and grooming standards, including proper uniform and name tag. • Comply with all Fairmont policies, health and safety regulations, sanitation standards, and operational procedures. • Support sustainability initiatives and responsible hospitality practices where applicable. Marginal Functions • Assist with opening and closing side work, including preparing the host stand and organizing dining room materials. • Support servers and restaurant colleagues during periods of high business volume. • Assist with light cleaning and maintaining restaurant presentation throughout the shift. • Participate in departmental meetings and ongoing training. • Perform additional duties as assigned by restaurant leadership. The hourly start rate is USD $27.03 Education • High school diploma or equivalent required. • Previous experience in a luxury hotel, restaurant, or hospitality environment preferred. • Previous customer service experience required. Tools and Equipment • Computer system • Telephone • Tablet/iPad • OpenTable or comparable reservation management system • Point-of-Sale (POS) system • Credit card/payment processing equipment Physical Requirements • Long hours may occasionally be required. • Light work—exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift. • Must be able to bend, reach, stoop, and navigate a fast-paced restaurant environment. • Communicate information clearly, professionally, and courteously. • Maintain composure while working in a fast-paced restaurant environment. • Remain calm and solution-oriented during stressful situations.
